Internal Auditors: Do you deliver your clients safely to their destination, on time, and with a smile?
While traveling today, I read an article in the Southwest Airlines magazine written by the Southwest Airlines CEO, Gary Kelly. He stated the No. 1 priority of the airline is to “deliver you to your destination safely, on time, and with a smile.”
It registered with me that the Southwest priorities are very similar to what I teach in my Total Quality Auditing seminars. (Which I just happen to be doing tomorrow in Minneapolis, MN! And side note – have you been to the Mall of America?? Whoa. Just whoa. I digress… )
Anyway, here is the deal.
That Southwest priority is a PREVENTATIVE, CLIENT FOCUSED priority. They are focusing on the key risks (safety), anticipating the issues (time), and emphasizing the importance of culture (smiles)… all for you (the customer).
What about us as Internal Auditors? Are we focusing on key risks, anticipating issues, and emphasizing culture? Are we focusing on the concerns/needs of our stakeholders?
Do you have PREVENTATIVE, CLIENT FOCUSED priorities? Are you delivering a quality service, on time, and with a smile?
Let’s be honest, Internal Auditors are often called in AFTER a crisis occurs to investigate what went wrong. Total Quality Auditing places a premium on identifying and understanding the issues at our organizations in order to take preventive action.
